Five Courses of Strahd is a Curse of Strahd (Ravenloft 5e) game, run 1 on 1, between Kiel - the DM - and Arella - the player. It takes place in the mist-locked land of Barovia, a few years after the base events of the Curse of Strahd module. It was originally concepted as a game where most combat and dungeon-diving was replaced by culinary battles and a dating-sim-like approach to romancing basically everyone, but it soon evolved into kingdom management as well.
The game has run for over a year now, weekly (even twice a week sometimes!).
The main PC is Prianna Rein, a half-elf/half-Vistani bard (and chef) that The Mists have targeted as their latest plaything. The ongoing storyline of Prianna has lasted for many real-life years, across multiple Dungeon Masters and games. No matter how much progress Prianna makes within the land of Barovia, The Mists see fit to reset everything, sending her back to the beginning of her Curse of Strahd journey, eliminating the memories of all she met before. Things are always slightly, to severely different, making her unable to really get her footing and defeat The Mists once and for all. After 200 years of cycle after cycle, Prianna thought she would be forever doomed to live this way.
200 years is a very long time to be trapped in a place, seeing the same NPC faces, learning about their personalities and histories, their wants and their needs. Soon, she fell in love with not only the land itself, but it's vampiric leader, Strahd von Zarovich - who happened to be the only NPC who remembered her in every game she was thrown into.
In Five Courses of Strahd, the other NPCs are beginning to remember her past times in Barovia too, and The Mists are being fought back. Prianna has worked her way through the ranks, proving her worth and dedication to these people, and is now the crowned Queen of Barovia. She's regarded by the townsfolk as the sun to Strahd's moon, the light to the darkness, and she is often found trying to influence her husband to make choices against that The Mists would want him to do, and more in line with what he would have done before he transformed. While he is still a dark lord, still a vampire, and still makes some pretty terrible choices for himself, their work together has proved to be more positive than negative.
The people of Barovia have had it with The Mists, and it's up to their leaders to guide them into action, and end their misery once and for all. After 1000 years of oppression and evil, it will take nothing short of a miracle to bring all of these people together under one banner.
